My work is based in feminist concepts that re-envision the classical nudes of antiquity. I
challenge the ideals of female sexuality and identity through the use of 1920’s style animated
characters in classical and contrasting environments. The figures in “Love Letters” are no
different. The archaic hand written love letter is synonymous with romance and love. We have all felt
love and passion in our lives. Often times it is what shapes us as human beings. A close
friendship, a passionate lover, or a moment of bonding with a stranger, all of these experiences
leave their mark, like a tattoo, on our lives. Sometimes they are painful, sometimes beautiful,
and all are transforming. These figures have taken writing on paper directly to the skin giving
rise to a physical love letter. Which of the words are tattooed, which are written? Only they
know for sure.
