‘We always sketch everything before since the piece must have a concept, a connection to the wall, the composition has to be balanced.’
Classical art and icons from mythology are layered and draped with graffiti, combining both vibrant chaos and refined beauty in PichiAvo’s art. Both artists trained in Fine Art and Design before they met on the urban graffiti scene in Valencia, which led to the formation of PichiAvo in 2007. Pursuing joint projects, they focused on skills and techniques to develop their recognisable style and showcase what defines them: graffiti and classical art.
Their innovative approach to creating these fusions reveals the beautiful balance that can be achieved between classical and contemporary art, often intensify the dramatic poses of the sculptures with the vibrant energy of their tags and urban colour pallet. Working both outside and inside the studio, they experiment across all mediums – painting, sculpture, and installation, often paying homage to the original techniques that allowed works from antiquity to be so well preserved.
